One likes to know that national security maintains standards.
The Transportation Security Administration has named Bolt, a 3-year-old German shorthaired pointer at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, its 2026 Cutest Canine.
Bolt is an explosives-detection dog, so this is not merely decorative employment. He began among 85 nominees from airports around the country, survived internal voting, advanced through four finalists, and ultimately secured the traveling public’s approval.
His handler describes him as intensely focused at work, endlessly energetic everywhere else, and permanently enthusiastic about reporting for duty.
Competence is reassuring. Competence with ears is difficult to improve upon.
