Prehistoric Britons looked at a 25-ton rock eleven miles away and said: yes, that one.

New research has traced the enormous Devil’s Arrows in Yorkshire to Brimham Rocks, despite perfectly serviceable stone being available much closer to the monument.

The three surviving pillars rise as high as 23 feet. One missing stone appears to have been reused centuries later as a village cross.

Four thousand years later, we would call this project management.
