Artificial intelligence has finally reached the jungle, where onboarding has been reduced to its essential form: touch screen, receive banana.
Researchers installed an AI-powered touchscreen in a Costa Rican forest to study wild capuchin monkeys.
For two days, nobody was interested.
Then Trompudo arrived.
He climbed onto the machine, slapped it repeatedly, eventually hit the touchscreen—and received a dried banana slice.
He immediately touched it again.
Other capuchins soon figured it out. Some used their hands. Some used their lips.
Coatis—raccoon relatives—also investigated, apparently preferring to break into the machine.
There are, evidently, several approaches to user experience.
