Some careers are improved considerably by a change in perspective.
Yesterday NASA launched the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, a $4-billion observatory now traveling nearly a million miles from Earth to begin studying dark matter, dark energy, and distant planetary systems.
Its 7.9-foot primary mirror came to NASA from the National Reconnaissance Office—the government agency whose reconnaissance satellites have traditionally been rather more interested in looking down.
NASA reshaped and refinished the mirror, built an entirely new observatory around it, and has now sent it into deep space to survey billions of stars and galaxies.
From reconnaissance to contemplation. One does admire professional growth.
