Necessity may be the mother of invention. Evidently, she keeps rulers and toy ambulances in the cupboard.
Gelato, a three-month-old rescue kitten with a spinal injury, was too small for any of the wheelchairs at his Cincinnati shelter. So veterinary assistant Mallory Smith constructed one from cardboard, wooden rulers, zip ties and a pair of toy ambulances.
The first prototype collapsed. The second worked. Gelato patrols his foster home in what Smith calls The Lion’s Throne and has since graduated to an adjustable 3D-printed model.
Civilization advances, occasionally on very small wheels.
